The Mews House, Chelsea, London

The Mews house is a good sized two bedroom, two bedroom property, arranged over two floors tucked away in the heart of Chelsea, London, with a delightful open plan living, dining and kitchen area.

We got involved with the project soon after our clients’ had purchased the property. On visual inspection the house seemed sound and just in need of cosmetic work but a structural survey soon showed that appearances can be deceptive!   Unfortunately a previous development of the house had been badly done, the vaulted ceiling was lacking support and unsafe, the roof needed replacing, the upstairs internal walls were unsound and the lack of damp course in a large part of the downstairs was causing real problems. We set about a six months schedule of works that, due to the building works required, necessitated a complete refurbishment of the house, which we designed and oversaw from conception to completion.

Taking the opportunity to turn the situation into a positive for our clients, we designed them a home entirely suited to them.  The kitchen and bathrooms were stream lined to make the most of the space whilst providing all the necessary function and the open plan living space was laid out to work more effectively for the family’s needs. We created a look that was simple and elegant, we keep it uncluttered but added interest and texture by using high quality tactile materials such as Italian travertine stone flooring, solid walnut, silk wall coverings and luxurious fabrics.
